The Role of Ketamine Infusion Therapy in Traumatic Brain Injury Recovery

The Role of Ketamine Infusion Therapy in Traumatic Brain Injury Recovery

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) can change more than the way you feel physically. After a concussion or other brain injury, you may experience changes in your mood, concentration, sleep, memory, and your ability to manage everyday stress.

These symptoms can linger long after the initial injury has healed.

At Wyckoff Wellness Center in Bergen County, New Jersey, Michael Gentile, MD, offers ketamine infusion therapy to address this problem. It often works when other treatments don’t, especially when depression or persistent pain is a factor.

How can a TBI affect mental health?

Your brain controls countless functions, from movement and memory to mood and sleep. A TBI can disrupt some of these essential functions, sometimes temporarily, but often for many months.

After a brain injury, you may experience:

These symptoms can affect one another. Poor sleep can make it harder to concentrate. Ongoing pain can affect your mood. Depression can make it more difficult to stay active and engaged in your recovery.

That’s why it’s so important for Dr. Gentile to treat the whole person, not just your symptoms.

What can you expect from ketamine infusion therapy?

Dr. Gentile considers your symptoms, medical history, previous treatments, medications, and goals before recommending ketamine infusion therapy.

If you’re a candidate, he’ll customize a plan for you so you’ll know what to expect from week to week.

During each treatment, you receive ketamine through an intravenous (IV) infusion in our comfortable office in Bergen County. Your designated care team monitors you throughout the session and tracks how you respond to treatment.

Depending on your needs, your broader treatment plan may include medication management, interventional psychiatry, nutritional psychiatry, lifestyle recommendations, or other mental health services.

Could ketamine help you manage your TBI symptoms?

Recovering from a TBI is not always a straight line. There will be good days and bad days, and the process can be very frustrating.

Dr. Gentile and our team have years of experience and expertise in helping patients recover from a TBI. If depression, persistent pain, or other mental health issues are interfering with your life, talk with us to understand your options.

Ketamine infusion therapy could be an ideal solution if you’ve tried conventional treatments without much progress.

At Wyckoff Wellness Center, we take the time to understand what you’re going through, not just your diagnosis. We create a treatment plan based on your specific needs and stay involved along the way.
